Edwin Schmierer, Esq.

A board member of Womanspace in Mercer County since 1986, Edwin Schmierer’s involvement started with a phone call from a high school friend, who also happened to be an advocate at Womanspace. She was asking if he would help a client at Superior Court; a survivor who was there pro se for a final restraining order hearing. He agreed and hurried down to court with the NJ Domestic Violence Act in hand, representing the mother who had her three children in tow. In his words “The whole experience gave me a new appreciation for the work of Womanspace and once the victim and her kids gave me hugs, thanking me on the way out of court, I was hooked”.

Ed served on the board when men working to end domestic violence was rare. He has donated uncounted hours to the cause, speaking about domestic violence in the community, representing the agency on legal matters, giving freely of his time and expertise. He has spoken often of his parents who raised their family with love and mutual respect motivating him to a commitment that all families deserve safe, peace-filled homes. His even, quiet manner has the desired effect; people listen to him. Ed exemplifies a Man of Strength in his commitment to family, community and Womanspace.
